Cricketers have become business ventures with the advent of the Indian Premier League. The auctions were held today and big bucks were rolling, with cricketers getting a price on their head.

How exactly does this work? Who are the big guns financing each team?

The amount of money involved is simply staggering. Hopefully this doesn't destroy the game.

I guess this is similar to EPL, right?

But I feel that atleast miniscule portion of this money can go towards sponsoring other sports in India. There seems to be a marginal rise in corporate sponsorship of other sports, but this is not enough. People like P.T.Usha are toiling towards helping atheletes with talent. Hope they get some financial help. Come this august, we're in for another humiliation in Beijing.

Have edited the post and added info on the owners and cost for each of the eight teams.
Yes in a way it is same as the EPL.
Too much money is never a good thing, and yes some money flowing into other sports will go a long way in improving India's overall sporting face.
