The World Cup that was...or Wasn't

The World Cup has come to an end.....Finally!!!!!
To say that the tournament was a total disaster wouldn't be too far from the truth. It was truly one of the worst world cups ever and Aussies winning again didn't make it any better.

The thing that was most dismal was the way the ICC tried to impose themselves on the Carribean cricketing culture. The control freaks that they are, they imposed restrictions on the crowds which took out the most interesting aspects of cricket in the carribean.

Needless to say the India-Pakistan debacle led to a tepid super-8 stage. This is probably the first time there have been so many one-sided affairs. I am not talking about close finishes here but say a 30 run or a 3 wicket loss in place of a 60 run loss or a 7 wicket loss which was how most matches ended up.

The fiasco with the Duckworth-Lewis calculations in the final was a fitting end to this miserable tournament and summed up the whole affair. Credit to Australia for maintaining their level of play and I guess their losses to the Kiwis just before the tournament pumped them up for the big one.

One just hopes the ICC can learn from their mistakes and put up a better one in 4 years time....

Final Word: A World Cup to be forgotten..........
